My dad just picked up a mac because we needed a new computer. I tried installing AIM, but it tries to open it as a movie file. Using Stuffit File Expander, it won't open. Any help? Thanks.

That's what you get for buying a Mac.

No idea how to help you though... I'm a PC user. Maybe try right clicking and say open with Installer or something... I don't know.

first of all, I am so sorry. second, are you downloading the windows aim installer?

I'ts very hard getting used to a Mac if you've been using a PC for so long, that's why I never use mine, get a refund and buy a real computer.

Also, slap your father.

Also, go to a Mac forum, where they can help you. We can't; because we're just a bunch of faggots who don't like macs.

to right click on macs, you have to hold control i think then click. if it's not control then it's the apple button, or that other weird looking one! i had to use macs at school i don't know how to help with the program problem though, sorry. unless there's an apple version of it!

That's the function... but a true Mac has one button.... which is obviously void of a right button.

ive always been a mac guy, it'll take some getting used to but you'll catch on. once you do, you'll love it. and get adium if you've got a mac, it's the best Im client out there.
adiumx.com
fully customizable, and lets you merge all of your chat accounts like yahoo, aim, etc.
(i only use aim on it though)
good luck, if you need any more mac help just message me.

*Cough* Apple has an official two button mouse for years now and comes standard with new computers, except laptops. If you only have 1 button, Ctrl+Click to right click and most people don't know about the right click on the new Macs because the two buttons are set to the main click (left click) by default and people don't think about going in the mouse preferences. If you have a Mac and you only got a 1 button mouse, you're an idiot. Either get the Apple 2 button mouse (which is very uncomfortable) or get a god damn normal mouse. Like 99% of them are compatible.

As for your question. You're on Mac, not Windows. So get the Mac version or get Adium which is an IM application that has a bunch of different ones in one application (MSN, AIM, YIM...).

Screw Microsoft and screw Apple. x) They both suck, but they're easy to understand.

Mac does get viruses. They both suck with support.

How about you go get linux? ::thumbs up::
#27
awesome for you, once you get used to it you'll be amazed at the simplicity of it

as for AIM, youre probably DLing the windows one, here

its ugly though, like seriously it isnt the streamlined messanger that MSM is or YIM is completely

I wonder how much experience the mac-haters here actually have with macs.

Actually I'm pretty sure he's right. It's either that or they just used those tiny Macs from the early 90s that were pure crap. I was exactly the same before I used a modern one.

I once saw somebody carry a Guitar Hero controller in a case to protect it. He probably should have packed his testicles in there too, seeing as he won't need to use those for quite a while.
