I have been looking at Andy Mckee, Don Ross, Antoine Dufour, and the whole Candyrat gang for months and have loved them. I purchased a thumb pick and decided to start to work with the thumbpick.

I am learning Antoine Dufour's "Development " and I am working on the very beginning and have the bassline right, and the first section, but that slap is starting to hurt my hand.

Where are you supposed to slap? I have been slapping around my last knuckles(closest to fingertips).. and especially my pinky finger hurts.

Am I doing right? Do I need to get callouses on those too

If you're slapping the right way with your thumb there shouldn't be too much pain. Maybe you're doing it too close to the bridge? Usually you want to hit the string right where the fretboard meets the guitar.

I've been using my other fingers and slapping down. I guess that was why.

That's what I do. I use the pads of my fingers, though. Seems to work fine for me.

Thank you guys, I will try it out with the thumb and the pads of my fingers and see what works best.
