And I can sum it up with the following sentence:

MUSIC HAS NO ****ING RULES!!!!!!
MUSIC HAS NO ****ING RULES!!!!!!
MUSIC HAS NO ****ING RULES!!!!!!
MUSIC HAS NO ****ING RULES!!!!!!
MUSIC HAS NO ****ING RULES!!!!!!

There aren't any "methods" to write riffs/lyrics/or any other piece of music.
It's all in your mind, and in you hands.
If you feel that you just can't come up with a good idea that's means one thing:
YOU JUST CAN'T WRITE SONGS.

Deal with it, no one can write songs if he follows method X or method Y, don't think you'll be able to write 'Stairway To Heaven' if you'll stick to this scale or that scale. If you aren't spontaneous with writing music, you should give up and take it easy.

That's okay.

These are not rules, they are guidlines.

Reported.

But the dude DOES have a point. Guidelines only get you so far before you start sounding like every song you write sounds just like "Stairway." Thinking outside the box is a must, but the forum is a good starting place for people new to the game.
