Ok I'm looking at new strings for my Epiphone Explorer. I'm gonna be running it on a Vox Valvetronix AD30VT and a Metal Muff. What strings do you recommend for Metallica/Megadeth sound? And what gauge for metal? Would 9's be fine?

I'm leaning on D'addario's or Ernie Ball's from what I've been told but what kinds?

if you must have the d'addarios get the exl-140s they are basically mixed 10's and 11's

Regular Slinky's (.10s) should be fine for standard tuned metal. maybe look at GHS Boomers in .10 gauge as well.

You defenitely recommend 10's over 9's though? But I'm open to whatever, I dont have my heart set on Ernie's or D'addarios, thats just what a couple of my friends told me to get.

i use ghs 11's and they sound sick for metal or prog metal in my case but you may need to build up your finger strength before switching try hybrids first and than slowly make the transistion to the heavier guages they sound sick though
