My mate bought an acoustic a little while ago but doesn't know how to change strings or anything so I said I'd help him by getting him a new set and restringing it for him but he doesn't know what gauge strings are on there. So what gauge strings are usually put on a steel-string acoustic at the factory? It's a Vintage single-cutaway jumbo bodied acoustic if it makes a difference. Thanks in advance.

He's asking what they typically come with, not what he can put on them, presumably so he doesn't have to worry about the truss rod / adjusting to playing on a new gauge.

Most factories ship with .12s on their guitars.

Gear:
Partscaster/Tele into a bunch of pedals, a Maz 18 head, and a Z Best cab.

Is that the same for 12 string guitars? What about classical guitars (while we're at it) ?

cool thanks roamingbard.

EDIT: Is that 12-53's? or 12-56's? I'm guessing 12-53 is the standard and 12-56 is the heavy bottoms set.

12-53s are pretty much the standard for strings from a factory.

on a 12 string guitar... i would say 10-47s are standard.
