hey guys, so people say they have there amp, but they have a pedal to give it a Boost.
does it just mean to give it that much more gain? or what?

Slightly more gain, usually a slight raise in volume and perhaps a few more mids. It helps with soloing and being heard over everyone else.

Generally used are overdrive pedals like the Tubescreamer etc.

Oh! My bad.

Yeah, it makes things a little more easier to hear in a live settings. If you've ever saw a video of Stevie Ray Vaughan live, he constantly uses his OD pedal which helps him immensely. However, when he turns it off, it's very hard to hear him.
