try your hands on a Yamaha, ive got 2 and they are both great. However you should always try as many as you can and then decide which one you are most comfortable playing.

AFAIK, Fender doesn't make a 6-string Jazz bass.

Warwicks are great, but very expensive. I have a G&L 5 string that's really nice and versatile. As for six strings, I've never really played one that I liked, so I have no opinion there.
