hey i am looking for a small tube amp that could manage a petrucci style lead and rhythm tone. I dont have alot of cash to spend and I dont need much output (a small 1x12 combo would be ample)

A short list i have compiled of potential amps are as follows:

Crate V Series V33-212 33W 2x12

Palomino V32 30W 1x12

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Palomino-v32-Class-A-Tube-Combo-Amp?sku=487828

Peavey ValveKing 112

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-ValveKing-112-Combo-Amp?sku=481442

Laney VC15-110 15W 1x10

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Laney-VC15110-15W-1x10-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=481338

Let it be known, this would be an upgrade from a Line 6 Spider 3 30W, and I am a complete tube n00b!

I will be playing an Ibanez RG1570 with stock pickups atm but later with dimarzio air norton and D-Sonic or Steve's Special!

You won't be able to find a small 1x12 tube amp that can get close to Petrucci's tone, not without some pedals anyway.

could i get a small tube amp not with high gain, and buy a metal muff? Would this sound any good?

is ther mini colossal any good? it seems a bit limiting so far as not being bal to hsape bass, mis, treble frequencies and such.

I cant afford a mesa although god i wish i could!

Try a B-52 AT combo and maybe an overdrive.Should cover Petruccis tone and the other stuff you wanted.

Would it get anywhere near Petrucci's tone? No.

I'm guessing you're looking to spend about $600? None of the amps you listed will really come close to Petrucci's tone. If you're willing to go used, look around for a Mesa DC-5, F-30, or Nomad 45 or 55. You'll get much better results.

It responds to your volume knob very nicely. It's not an overly versatile amp, sounds good though. I wouldn't pay $500 for it.

The Mark IV is available as a 1x12 combo, either wide body or compact.
