I was looking at the peavey classic 30, but now i think that might be slightly out of my budget... are there other good ones that are similar? maybe more gain? but like 400-500 usd?
#2
Peavey ValveKing should do the trick for more gain if thats what you need. The 1x12 is 50W tube and $430 USD.

Get a used Peavey Classic 30.

I got my used Classic 50 2x12 for $380.

^I'd let a pro look at it. Once you get into the technicalities of screws...well, it's just a place you don't want to be, friend.

i think i tried a valveking, dont know which one,.... it was right next to the classic, but it was quite big...

i think... i hated it... it sounded really artificial...
#5
valveking sounds artificial to me too. fizzy and sort of thin. u might like it that way, but to me its not the best amp out there.

try a Crate Palomino.

you may also take a look at those new Crates (v18, v33) as well.

^noice. it's like a competitor of a blues jr.

what preamp tubes does it run on? if they use 3 12AX7s, it's like... Blues Jr in class A haha.

but two EL84s in class A doesn't get up to 18watts does it...?

i dont think 3 watts is really a big difference to warrant a different tube setup. correct me if im wrong though.

and yes, it has 3 12ax7's and 2 el84's, so its right in the alley of a blues jr and a palomino.

i own the v18 112 version, and in a nutshell, a bit of burn-in may be needed to get the tone you want. and replacing the sovteks does wonders for this amp. also it breaks up real early, with the gain at around 2-ish or a bit over.

i usually run it at: gain & level at 2 and level=8-9, gain=1 . its bliss

Most classic 30's go used on Ebay for under $400. I paid $330 including shipping for mine.
