Hey,
I have lingered around the blues genre for too long now, I am a great blues player (that's what the locals say), but I want to get into shred. I have reasonable speed, I pick up on new scales well, but i just don't know what scales or whatnot to learn first.
Can anyone give some pointers to me on how to get started shredding?
Thanks!

PS: Also, I know my gear isn't great for shred, but i'll make due with what i have.
Call me Wes.
Gear:
Fender American Deluxe HSS Strat
Chicago Blues Box Roadhouse
Bad Cat Cougar 5
1957 Gibson GA-5
Ceriatone 18w TMB Combo

Weber MASS Attenuator

Paul Gilbert's Intense Rock I is a great start for any person looking to get into shredding. You can find snippets on youtube, but I recommend hunting down the full version if you can.

All right.
I saw a steve vai guitar workout on UG tabs, will that work well?
I've done this in the past, but will this help me shred in the sence that it uses the same scales in shredding stuff? Also, what are good scales to use in shred? I only know the scales used in blues and some rock.

There isn't really one good scale for shredding, some like harmonic minor are common, but basically, you can use everything.

Steve Vai's work out never really struk me as useful, mainly because it revolves around chromatic exercises, which have nothing to do with making music.

For some great lessons, try Paul Gilbert. His instructional videos (like Intense Rock and Terrifying Guitar Trip) are ace.
