The guy that's constantly cited in those shred v. Jazz arguments, aka the really really fast guy.

Jazz fusion guitarist that's WAYYYY fast.

He does play a bit too fast, but I think he's got potential, when he's not just running scales he's got really good phrasing.

Well I'd only call the last one fusion, but still.

I actually had a big discussion about this guy with my teacher yesterday ... mostly about how snappy he dresses. He is incredible as a player though.

Anyway there are plenty of older jazz players (Benson? Martino? Metheny? not to mention the boppers like Farlow and Raney) who easily put "shred" to shame in my books.

i think hes a great player, but sometimes it would really help if he sustained a few notes a bit longer (im not saying he doesnt do that, but there are some instances when he should but doesnt). besides that hes excellent.

I'm suprised at the lack of immense hate so far.

Has he recorded any albums?

The Blues & Jazz forum is in short supply of that at the moment

check back when hell freezes over

I've never heard him before, he's brilliant, I'm not bothered by his speed because it doesn't sound overdone like so many others,

I prefer the first video of the three, the more traditional jazz sound is more my bag

thanks, gonna look further into this guy

For me, he's a gypsy jazz player who branches out into other things, sometimes retaining a bit too much of his gypsy jazz roots in my opinion. I still enjoy his playing a lot though. Good player.

And uh... What shred vs jazz arguments?
He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt.
He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice.

"Which is more technical" arguments, and he's cited by everyone defending jazz.

But I'm not sure if I hear to much gypsy jazz, even in the Minor Swing clip. He's seems pretty New Orleans-styled to me.

EDIT: I just found some more of his stuff, you're right. Very Django-ish.

Thank god I haven't seen any of those around... At least not in recent history.

Eh, come to think I haven't seen one in a good few months, which makes me happy .

Still no info on whether or not he's released any albums?

Oh, I wasn't aware there was a question about that.

He's got:

- Young Jazz Guitarist
- Solo
- Andreas, Ritary & Yorgui

As well as a live performance DVD.

I only have Andreas, Ritary & Yorgui for the moment though.
