Keep in mind the most I have to spend is going to be about $700 but I'd really, really, really want to have $500 be my limit.

if you have 500 why are you buying multi-efx, when you could get some really great analog efx for that price?

I guess i kinda had the same question, if you walk into guitar center and want to spend 500 dollars on pedals, im pretty sure you can get some HUGE discounts, they'll have commission out the ass on your sales.

Well, fair question. I'm not really gigging yet and I won't be for a couple of months. Rather than having a few really nice pedals that I'm going to be using just exclusively at home, I think it'd be a better idea to buy something with a wide selection to toy around with. At this point, I'm not really sure what effects I want, I don't know what the style I'm playing will require. So, my plan is to buy a multi-Fx for now, and if I ever get truly serious, I'll invest in some nicer equipment.

But if I don't get a multi-Fx, I'm getting a POG. Fwiw...

Get a used GT-8 for about $250, and buy distortion pedals (Rat, Muff, etc...) to put in the loop instead of using the amp sims.

Trust me, the nice analog pedals will sound alot better and if they are built well (and they should be) than your gonna be able to love them alot longer. most people can understand the difference between and nice analog OD and Chorus than terrible digital sounds... I understand you want to toy around... but you will regret it in the long run... If you want to play most styles, just grab a fulltone OCD/modded Ts9, a memory man, a phase 90 and a small clone or boss chorus and you'll have most of what you need...

i dont know, i would say some of those nice muli-effects are on par with good stomp boxes. i mean, i know i can get some nice sounds out of a gt-8 and ive never spent more than 10 minutes at a time with one. digital stuff can sound very nice these days, so i see no reason to sit there and say that you must buy analog effects. no matter what you get, as long as it is well built it should serve you nicely for a long time.

Is the Zoom not very good? Or is the Boss just a lot better? And how does the Tonelab compare?
#15
Zoom tends to not be very good, and from what I've heard the Boss GT-8 is one of the best multi-fx, and the GT-10 is supposedly just an updated GT-8.

why not just test all the out...?

I plan too. But first I'm just looking for some general opinions.

I have a Gt-8 for sale. It's the best multi-effect I've used. Better then Line 6, Vox, Korg, and Digitech. IMO.
