An A/B box is a device which allows you to switch between two outputs. An A/B/Y box is a device which allows you to switch between 2 outputs, or both of the outputs at once.

True bypass is a switching method where, in the bypass mode, the signal goes directly from the input jack through the switch to the output jack with no connection to the circuitry in the box. Basically, its a straight shot through the pedal with no interruptions, and therefore your tone isn't changed by the pedal itself while in bypass mode.
