I'm buying a Fender Blues jr and want a good overdrive pedal that actually has a tube in it. Suggestions?

You don't need an OD with a Tube inside it. More often than not SS ones actually sound better.
The Laney Thread are big and clever. No exceptions.

It's not really necessary.. but if it must have a tube in it, there's the Hughes & Kettner Tube Factor and the Vox Big Ben Overdrive.. but really, they're not much better (if at all) than their SS equivalents, and they're all waay overpriced.

^Hey Brad, haven't seen you in years!

How's things?

Also since you already have a tube amp, you don't need a tube OD pedal.

Heheh, hey Gabe!
Yeah, I'm back..
I'm fairly good, except that my love for drumming ensured that I didn't have enough money to get any new guitar gear in '07..
I'm gonna save up for a new amp this year.

And just to stay on topic.. the Fulltone OCD is an awesome OD pedal.

+1 i have it and love it.

well theres also the fulldrive by fulltone but ive only heard soundclip of it. from the soundclips, it sounds smoother than the ocd but its really hard to tell just from that.
#10
yeah i guess that switch that increases upper mids would make it harsher than it can be.

+1 on the OCD. I bought one, will NEVER need a new OD pedal again.

actually another thing about the fulldrive is that it has a germanium transistor in it evidendly. see that adress below for the diagram which says it uses germanium. funny.. they discontinued their germanium fuzzes cause they didnt have the trannies. y does this have germanium then?

the ocd seems like a great pedal but from all i can see, the fulldrive looks slightly better to me. of course you pay for that..

Okay, I just used a SS ds-1 and some carvin (SS) pedal and they made the BJ sound very muffeled and boxey. Whats wrong? by the way I play 80's metal

Probably because those are distortion pedals, you need an overdrive pedal.

Look at Ibanez Tubescreamers, Fulltone OCD, Marshall Bluesbreaker maybe.
But really, I think the OCD is you everything you need and a bag of chips.
