OCD
what music do you want to play with it?
budget?
amp?
guitar?

I mostly play Classic/Blues Rock so I'm gonna pick up a Hendrix Fuzz Wah.
But I want to have another pedal that can play Grunge/Metal. I play and Epiphone LP standard and I'm gonna get a Peavey Classic 30 or a Crate Palomino.

It depends a lot of what kind of tone you want. Some guitarists don't use pedals at all for distortion and rely purely on the amp tone.

Boss mt-2? digitech grunge? Boss ds-1 even? you need to try 'em out and decide for yourself

Why?
I think the classic 30 only needs a small boost to be ''metal'', so look into a tubescreamer of sorts.

I like two pedals:

The Boss Super Over Drive- Great range of sound from a light barely there '60s blues/rock tone to a hard crunch

The Boss Metal Zone- Serious metal distortion with a slight delay, it turns any electric into a metal machine. Feeds back easily with my Tele bridge pickup.
