Self explanatory really - once u get the hang of it just play it faster
7 0 0 6 0 0 7 0 7 0 0 6 --- etc just play them slow then once you know them speed it up

to increase speed, use alternate picking and a metronome.

i do it a lot. ill be playin somethin and i forget to close my mouth... sometimes its really bad, slobber everywhere. i goes mostly over the neck, on the higher frets, and its really hard to get out from under the strings.

Chug the E(Well, more likely a C, whatever) string while pinching harmonics on any strings above you feel like.

WHat kind of riff is it called? How would you describe it without saying "its a generic metalcore riff"

Hey dudes, you're right metalcore riffs can be repetitive but that This Darkened Heart Riff kicks ass!!! Lol I've moved on from metalcore to more progressive metal but I still occasionally play that riff cuz it sounds awesome lol.

And to the threadstarter: it's the exact same technique as the intro to Master of Puppets, you have to down-pick every note on the bottom string and then up-pick the notes on the 5th string. Play it reeeealy slowly at first and then try to build speed. And if you haven't already, learn Master of Puppets, it's kind of a big deal. Lol.

That riff is about the same thing as Unholy Confessions by Avenged Sevenfold as well >__>

You could try to use it as an exercise to improve your hybrid picking as well.
#18
yes same type of riff from avenged sevenfold... What is it called? What kind of excercises can i do?

If you're not up-picking the notes on the A string (EDIT: the 7 and the 6 in between the chugs on the bottom string lol) you're making more work for yourself. Fundamental alternate picking, you want the last stroke you made towards where you're going.

No....The song is recorded with ALL downpicking and Alt. Picking the song doesn't quite as chunky...
