If this goes in the electric guitar forum, or the bands and artists forum, sorry - I'll take it there if you'd rather.

Anyway, I saw U2's 3D concert movie a couple of nights ago, and during "New Years Day," he played a particularly eye-catching 1975 Les Paul Custom. I noticed odd-looking pickups right away. I've done some research but haven't found anything - are these some obscure brand of pickups, or just open-coils with some kind of curious bracing structures?

Here's a picture - http://u2-atomic-edge-gear.tripod.com/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://u2-atomic-edge-gear.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/195_2.jpg&target=tlx_new

Again, sorry if this is in the wrong place.
This should go in the electric guitar forum it think. But about the pickups, there odd but i think there just open coil humbuckers with a fancy metal border.

[quote="'Tommy[fin"]']What? Aren't those just normal humbuckers? That's what I thought, but there are small, metal rings around it, which I've never seen on open-coils.

I think he's right about the custom pickups. This '75 Les Paul has stock pickups.

That's exactly what I've been trying to say.

How was the movie?
Excellent - Bono did a few "Ahh it's Godzilla reaching out of the screen to get me ahhh" moments, and I thought it could have been longer, and a few songs could have been changed out, but it was a more than satisfactory film.
