1. if two guitars have the same pickups, do they sound the same?

2. what do pickuop covers do? do they do something to the sound?

1) They could be the same model with the same pickups and not sound the same. Because each piece of wood is unique, each guitar is unique.

2) Plastic pickup covers don't do anything to the sound. Metal pickup covers can cut off high end a bit.

Also, metal pickup covers can destroy your tone is they're not soldered on correctly. An Epi LP Studio I had a while back had home-installed-bad-at-soldering metal covers, and it gave me odd squealing noises sometimes and made my tone like I was playing through a pop can. I removed them.
