Im going to be getting my first guitar in a few days and want a gibson sg copy iv read up on the epiphones and at the moment it looks like the best option. However im also interested in the tokai USG 35 but cant find any info on them anywhere.
Does anyone have any experience with either of these or even better both and can let me know which one is better

Tokai is better than Epiphone in almost every case, high-end Tokai's compare to gibson but at a much lower price.

All the cheaper non japanese made ones don't compare. However, I would go with the Tokai, I don't mind Epiphones but compared to any Tokai I can't stand them. And on every Epiphone I've played the pickups were awful.

So do MIJ Epis.

Anyways, to the TS, why go with the three pick-up G400? The normal one is cheaper then the Tokai.

USG 35 http://www.reidys.com/index.pl?submit=View_PLU&PLU=6171

The best advice, play them both and then decide. Other then that, my G-400 is by far my favourite guitar to play. I compared it against a Gibson SG Standard before I bought it, I own a Kramer Stagemaster, so I'm not lacking in 'nice guitars' to compare it to. Your mileage may vary.

PS: Watch for headstock dives.

Im not going to get a chance to play either as none of the local shops have them in unfortunatly although i did have a go with a gibson sg special which both are obviously based on.
With regards to sound iv watched a few vids on youtube and read some reviews on the epiphone and am happy that both cover what i want in that respect. So im basicaly jus looking to find which of the two offers the best value for money which so far seems to be the tokai ?
