I must have downloaded a virus, because limewire was automatically downloading a bunch of random files onto my computer. so i deleted all the files and shut down limewire, but it kept opening itself up automatically. so i uninstalled the program, and it still keeps trying to open, and it gives me this message:

"ONe or more necessary files appear to be invalid.

Java version 1.6.0_03 from Sun Microsystems Inc.

You have spyware probs...

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

This program will take care of it for you. It is free, legal, and is not a lame ass demo.

And you have a Limewire prob I see too.

I have that program, i already ran it and it didn't fix anything...i'm running it again, though, just to be sure.

thanks for actually posting something helpful, though.

in the start menu, go to "run" and type in "msconfig". then you will see a calender. click a date like the beginning of this month. that sets your date back. then download norton antivirus 7.3, which will get rid of said files. then, your good.

i know cuz i recently got like 94 trojans looking at porn. dont use youporn.

im not sure wat to tell you but if you have an external hardrive or something else you can store data on, you can put all your files on it and then restore your computer with the discs tht came with your comp.

People say LimeWire itself will mess your computer but that's not true.. if you never use it nothing is going to happen, it's the things you download on it.
If you're safe and not a complete idiot you'll have loads of free music and 0 viruses but that's beside the point.

I'm not sure about your error but the thing about LimeWire popping up constantly isn't a virus.. the program can get this error sometimes from pausing and resuming a download frequently at one time and there's some other things that can do it too..
I've had it happen twice, both times I just ran some scans and crap and got rid of the corrupted files and reinstalled and it was fine.

Well, if it doesn't find anything, you may need to download another spyware device or find another virus scanner. You can never have too many. If nothing finds a problem, then you may need to start using a more reliable program than Limewire.

That site will list out-- towards the bottom a few really good alternatives, while steering you away from the scam/ spyware programs themselves.

you got pwnt.

how about not downloading that 137kb file?

I haven't used an anti vir/spyware program in 3 years, and I haven't had 1 virus yet.

How do you know you didn't just get a few minor ones?

Me too. Seriously people, 1) Use Firefox (with NoScript if you are really paranoid), 2) Use a firewall, 3) Don't download suspicious files (think FREEPORN.EXE).

The easiest way is just to backup all your important files and reformat. Not only does it fix near every problem, but it gets rid of loads of crap that has been building up. I typically do a reformat at least once a year and eventually you get it down to a science where it takes no longer than an hour or two (which most of that is spent formating the drive so I go make a sandwich).

edit: Also, every once in a while I'll download Spybot or AVG or w/e and run it just to make sure and what do you know, no viruses to be found.
