So, I'm the drummer in my band (spare the drummer jokes please). We're playing at someone's sweet sixteen (i didn't know they existed other than on MTV) on friday and we were wondering what order to do our songs in. We don't need to be playing for very long, only 30 mins - 45 mins - 60 minutes

we were thinking:

1. Ytse Jam - Dream Theater (aprox 6 min)
2. Keyboard Solo (while guitarists tune to drop D) (aprox 2 min)
3. No More tears - Ozzy Osbourne (aprox 6 min)
4. Blow Me away - Breaking Benjamin (aprox 3 min)
5. Keyboard Solo (while guitarists tune back up) (aprox 2 min)
6. Pull Me Under - Dream Theater (aprox 7 min)
7. Pretty Little Ditty - RHCP
8. Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix (Aprox 4 min)
9. Paralyzer - Finger 11 (end with the brithday girl's requested song). (aprox 4 min)

so what does UG think?
My sig used to be so awesome it got me banned

something like that in my opinion

07 Fender American Deluxe Strat
07 Fender Custom Telecaster
09 Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster
09 Fulltone OCD V.4
10 Ibanez WH-10 V.2
09 Splawn SuperStock
10 Jet City JCA-20
97 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe

Yeh the SICK! bit sounds a bit stupid.

how can you play a sweet 16 without doing ' Stripped, Raped, and Strangled '?

edit - I think you should do another song and play the set like this

first half - E

second half - Drop D

it'll make it quicker, and re-tuning is boring, even with a solo

It's not rocket surgery.

tbh if this is for a girls party i doubt she or her teenage friends (if you dont know them) will like many of those songs. i realize that this may be a style that your band plays, if that is the case either learn a 50 cent song or prepare to be egged on stage

Rather than having to cover your guitarist detuning then re-tuning his guitar by doing solos, wouldn't it be simpler to just get him a spare guitar from somewhere? Then he can have one tuned in concert pitch and the other in the drop tuning, then he can just change his guitar while you talk to the audience for a moment.
This does look more professional.
If you really want to do solos, try working them into the middle of other songs. You can take a simple, short song and turn it into an epic that way.

the girl likes finger 11? i've never heard them, but do they sound anything like those other bands? if not, i'd either change the setlist or question why you're playing the gig.

and seriously, it shouldnt take too long to retune. just have your singer have a little chat. tell a story. whatever. the solo thing would be naff.
my name is matt. you can call me that if you like.

It only takes about 30 seconds at most to go from standard to drop D or vice versa. Just interact with the audience a little bit, get them involved.
