Hey, I was wondering if people could post their best app. combinations for a virus free computer. Right now I'm running AVG Free and AdAware 6 Professional. It's seems to be working for all the cracks and porn I download but my computer seems kinda sluggish lately. I don't want to hear "ZOMG!1!! TEH PRONZ IS VIRS@!1eleven1!1," I'm just wondering what other people use as far as anti-virus, anti-adware, and anti-spyware goes.

I use AVG free and Spybot.

I use AVG free edition for anti-virus

spybot search and destroy does me spyware/adware (also free)

And I also use Zone Alarm firewall (free version) So I always know exactly what programs have access to the internet.

Oh, and I use firefox instead of IE, that's important too.

same here

except for my vista desktop, Norton 360 and Zone Alarm firewall. no problems

windows defender is ok, but its good to get a secondary firewall just to be safe

I have a Mac... and a Windows. You didn't help anybody stupid fanboy.

Thanks for the answers, I"m downloading Spybot now.

I also forgot to add I'm running XP SP2.

AVG free
Spybot S&D
Adaware

software firewalls are basically useless, for a firewall to even be worth it, you need a separate machine for it

You can't just say **** like that.

Macs and PCs share many functions but are completely different.

I bought a PC because I want to be able to play ALL games that are released, not just mac compatible ones. Plus I want to be able to easily upgrade any component inside that computer.

If I was buying a computer solely for business/uni, I would probably get a mac laptop because they do all the stuff I need for that probably better than a PC laptop.

on Windows defender: microsoft security is where the hackers are aiming for when they make their viruses and trojans and worms etc.

It's better to have a firewall by someone else because it won't have the holes in it that windows firewall/defender has and alot of viruses you may have gotten with windows defender can be avoided.

Kaspersky Anti-virus, AdAware (free version)

I'm running XPS2 and I have no problems. I download A LOT of BS. And I also went through Bitdefender, AVG, Mcafee, Spybot - Kaspersky is the hands down winner.

Norton is the hands down loser--especially if you want to download warez and such. It'll identify everything as a virus and then not identify an actual trojan.

Nothing...like I posted in another thread it's not hard to be virus free. 1) Use Firefox (with NoScript if you're really paranoid), 2) Have your firewall enabled, 3) Don't click suspicious *.exe files, 4) Don't go to shady porn sites.

Haven't had viruses/spyware in years and I've even downloaded AVG/Spybot a couple of times to check and sure enough, everything was clean.

At work, Trend Micro.
At home, nothing.

Never had a problem with either. The best safety net for avoiding viruses/spyware/malware is using your damn brain.

I have ad aware and kaspersky but always have them turned off. I likely go through more porn than all of you and haven't had any viruses or spyware in like 2 years.

I don't quite know how you people do it...

Me "Have you ever bled out your arse-hole?"

Her: Facial expression was priceless - "What??! Noo!"

Me: "Well if you want to keep it that way, **** off."

She then turned away and whimpered.

Nah I wasn't stating that a Mac's better than a PC... just a PC is seemingly more highly targeted for viruses... and the viruses that do affect Macs, are hard to come across... just know your sources.
Thanks for reading

Norton. It slows my computer down, and doesn't work that well. the firewall is ok...
sup?

Esets NOD32 for anti virus (best you can get, worth paying for)
Lavasoft Adaware and Spybot S&D because sometimes one will miss things.
Windows Firewall (XP) because I'm behind a hardware firewall.
Firefox for browsing.
