Hey I just got into theory, and I'm trying to construct a scale in C major scale (not pentatonic) and I read on one of the lessons on this website that the scale notes go like this:

C D E F G A B C

So I plugged this formula in and got this scale:

0|--|2-|3-|--|5-|--|7-|8-|--|10|--|12|--|14|15|--|17|--|19|20|--|22|--|24|
0|1-|--|3-|--|5-|--|7-|8-|--|10|--|12|13|--|15|--|17|--|19|20|--|22|--|24|
0|--|2-|--|4-|5-|--|7-|--|9-|--|11|12|--|14|--|16|17|--|19|--|21|--|23|24|
0|--|2-|--|4-|5-|--|7-|--|9-|--|11|12|--|14|--|16|17|--|19|--|21|--|23|--|
0|--|2-|3-|--|5-|--|7-|--|9-|10|--|12|--|14|15|--|17|--|19|--|21|22|--|24|
0|1-|--|3-|--|5-|6-|--|8-|--|10|--|12|13|--|15|--|17|18|--|20|--|22|--|24|

...So am I doing this correctly? Thank for the input.

Don't use distortion pedals. Just bury your guitar for three weeks, and then dig it up, that should do the job.

hmm no sorry... one give away that should clue you in is that on both your E strings there are different notes, they should be the same considering they are the same tonic string. But i see a lot of sharps and flats also which are never in C major.

quick google search found this and its really basic. those are scales you will want to learn and they are all in C major for your convienence.

The way i teach it is in bitesize pieces, 1 octave at a time. When people can understand that these two things are exactly the same scale they're well on their way to getting it.

|----------------------------------|
|----------------------------0-1---|
|----------------------0-2---------|
|--------------0-2-3---------------|
|-----------3----------------------|
|----------------------------------|

C Major (Open)

|-----------------------------------|
|-----------------------------------|
|-----------------------------------|
|--------------------7--9-10--------|
|-----------7-8-10------------------|
|----8-10---------------------------|

C Major (8th fret)

Looking at the whole fretboard is very daunting at first.
