Can anyone help me in achieving a good metal/metalcore sound out of my bass? I am looking into a sound like Mudvayne and KSE.

Thanks.

Well maybe in KSE, but I can hear the bass in Mudvayne pretty well.

Have you heard ANY Mudvayne?!

Anyways, those two bands (KsE and Mudvayne) have VERY different approaches to bass, and therefore bass tone.

Ryan Martinie of Mudvayne uses Warwick basses, and that's where he gets that distinctive "growl." It's hard to imitate it without a Warwick.

Mike D'Antonio, however, plays with his bass hardwired to flat, his amp EQ to flat, and relies on a Sansamp BDDI for tone shaping. Since the SansAmp only has "High" and "Low" controls, I'm sure if you got a compressor, some slight overdrive, and did a slight mid scoop on your EQ, you'll be set. Buried under guitar, but set.

WTF. Someone has never, ever heard a Mudvayne song. Ryan is a total beast.

But hold on - you're debating on whether or not to buy a bass or keep your house? That's pretty fucking hardcore!
