so im playing my guitar as usual like i do everyday and all of a sudden it cuts out and all i hear is a loud constant hum from my amp. i cant hear anything else but that. the crazy thing is the hum stops whenever i touch any metal part of the guitar like the cord jack or the pickup selector and the metal ends of my cord. i dont understand it. its not the amp because i tried my brothers guitar and its fine. ive had the hum for about a month now but only on a small scale, i could still hear myself playing but when i stopped playing i could hear it and the only way it went away was when i touched the metal pieces. whats wrong with my guitar? its only a few months old too.
I predict a bad input jack.
is that an easy cheap fix?
you have a ****ty cord? lol. i dont know sounds like the input jack may have a short.
Something inside got ungrounded.
how would i go about fixing the input jack? how would i ground whatever is ungrounded?
Bad input jack or bad guitar cord, had same problem. Replaced my cord and it was good, if thats not the case then take your guitar to a shop for repairs!
its not the cord because i used the same one on my brothers guitar and it was fine
thats likely as well but might also be the cable or jack... the parts where you do hear yourself play is probably grounding, but total cutoff of signal with just hum is either the jack or cable. get a fresh cable anyway but check your stuff to isolate the issue like swap cords and guitar. I hope that the amp is shot since its a line 6 spider... you could replace it with a better amp at least valvetronix or cube if not a cheap tube combo.
its not the cable or the amp because i tried my brothers guitar withe the same cable and the same amp and it sounded fine. it was my guitar that was messed up.
take it to the shop, have them check under the pickguard and the input jack for shorts or bad wiring.
