I want a pedal that can get me a tone similar to van halen's but also able to do randy rhodes, 70's-80's rock, and metallica. Any suggestions?

Ive got a Marshal 100 HDFX and Jackson Dinky with Seymour's. And my price range is probably $50-150 possibly a little higher. As long as I get my moneys worth.

Metal Muff with Top Boost by Electro Harmonix (Good overall sound, I can get mine to sound from heavy metal to hard rock. Although it's not as good as a specialty pedal)

Uber Metal by Line 6 (I really love this thing, it's got that pure metallica, Megadeth, Slayer sound. Although that's pretty much all it can do)

Those are the only two I own that I think might fit you.

Alright, I'm heading to a guitar store near here pretty soon, I've writen those ones down so I can try them out. Any other suggestions?

I'd say the Boss Metal Zone. Most people would disagree with me, but it has that very edgy distortion similar to metallica. When you go to the store just play a bunch of pedals, not just the ones suggested.

Oh I'm going too. I just wanted some place to start and get others opinions,

Metal Zone - no, Metal Muff is better but not really what you're after...try a Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde.

Ideally - forget pedals and get a better amp, $150 will get you most of the way to a 15 watt Vox Valvetronix.
Actually called Mark!

Agreed on the new amp, but I disagree on the Metal Muff being better than the Metal Zone. they are basically the same pedal, and both are thin, fizzy, and noisy. That said, the Visual Sound would work very well.
