I'm looking in to upgrade my old system (Ibanez RG 170R, Line 6 Spider III 15).

My band right now I play lead, I do all the solos, I've only been playing 2 years and I've finally decided to upgrade my stuff, I've been looking at:

Gibson Explorer Reissue with Emg81&60s

Line 6 Pod X3 Live:

Marshall MG100HDFX/MG412 Slant Cab Half Stack
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Marshall-MG100HDFXMG412-Slant-Cab-Half-Stack-Package?sku=482807

What do you think of this? Will it play Metallica/Halen/Alter Bridge well? That's all I really need this for. Is there anything important I should know before investing in to all this equipment?

Thanks,

the MG isn't worth the money, so you should prolly get a different halfstack. i can tell ya that much. their tone is ok at best, maybe a LIL better if someone really talented is playing through it.

you do know of course....you just started the MG bandwagon posts for the nite....LOL.

You should know that the MG halfstack isn't worth the money or the hassle of transporting a halfstack.
You've read it, you can't un-read it!

I don't care really what you guys think is best for me, no offense, I'm looking for a Metallica sound, would this do the job as suggested by CullenT:

This thread is full of suck. Do not get either of those SS stacks or the POD. Combine your saved money from those two amps and buy a used Meas Mark IV or F-50. Preferably the Mark IV. MUCH MUCH better than your other options.

The amp and pedal wouldn't be good. The guitar would be fine, but I would rather have an Ibanez 520ex. For what you want to spend a full tube amp like I suggested would be best.

You do NOT need a half stack, they are a pain in the ass to move and extremely unnecessary.

Try looking at :
Some LTD 400 series guitars or Schecters. Affordable and does the trick perfectly

For amp
Used F-50, you can get a head or a combo, your choice.
Valveking is a good cheap amp.

For effects
Used gt-6/8 or you can get a gt-10 when it comes out.
Line6 POD XT live

UGLY EDIT:

Don't blow your wad on super amazing looking expensive equipment just now. There'll be plenty of time for that

I'm guessing you want to play metal. Check out the ESP LTD 400/1000 series, they both come with EMG's stock on some models.

If you want metal, thrash type stuff, the amp I have (Peavey XXX) is great, you can buy the combo and an EQ pedal for around $500-600, and it'll blow the MG out of the water.

whatever you do do NOT get an MG.
Gibson Les Paul Custom
Fender American Tele

Aha thanks guys for the advice, I think I'm going to go with:

ESP LTD 400
Peavey XXX
Line 6 Pod X3 Live

Anything else I should know about these?
