Can I get a wide range of tones from it?

You can get some really sweet tones, but tbh a ES335 and similar style are more geared toward jazz and blues, but there are some people such as Dave Grohl who use hollowbodies for heavier stuff, but IMO they just aren't really made for higher-gain. If you want a really broad range of tones, go with a Les Paul or HSS Strat instead.

A solid body is more versatile. Hollows can get good bluesy tones and sweet sweeeeet old school-rock, but that's kinda it.

but what do I know...
