I'm not sure how many UGers are into poker but here goes.

The Game is Texas Holdem and we are having a buy in at my friends place yesterday. I pick up pocket Ks under the gun and raise it to 4 times the big blind. Person on the button calls me but everyone else folds. Flop comes out Kd-9d-4c. I have 3 of a kind but with the possible flush draw out there i don't want him to catch i put a small bet in just to see where he is at. He raises me. I raise right back. He thinks for a moment then pushes all in to which i have to call because i have the nuts. He rolls over pocket 8s and the turn and river show 8 and 8 giving him runner runner quads

I calculated the odds of this happeing and its 0.07% or about 1500-1.

Any bad beat storys from you guys?

I had Pocket Aces... Flop was A, something something. 3 of a kind for me. Thought for SURE I was going to win. Called all in. My friend matched. River and Turn were 4's... And guess what is hand was? An Ace 4. Full house :-( :-(

well mines not as bad as that but i once had pocket 3's which went to triples on the flop and all 8 players were in the hand and one guy who made a pair of 6's on the flop made a three of a kind on the river and beat me.

I had pocket 3's, the turn is 3 3 K. turn and river is A A. He had pocket A's.

I had aces on the flop, the other guy had pocket two's. He hit his two on the river.

I've only seen one royal flush and that was online. The best hand I've seen in real life was quads,.....against me. F***

Yeah I had A clubs K hearts

The Flop was K spades A Spades K Clubs

Then a 4 of something or other I think Diamonds.

Then a 10 spades came up. We both went all in.

I thought I was safe. He had J and Q of spades. lol. I nearly **** myself.

You had the best hand when all your money was in, that's all you can ask for. How much money did you lose?

I don't know what the villain was thinking. He may have put you on a flush draw early on, but as the hand goes on it's pretty clear you hit the flop.

I've played enough poker where bad beats don't affect too much--I just brush them away, however when a bad beat is combined with ridiculously bad play from my opponent(s) that gets me.

In regards to your play, you did not specify the bet sizes (nor stack sizes) so I don't know what your 'small bet' on the flop was, but I think 1/2 to 2/3rds the pot would be appropriate. After the re-raise, I would have 'thought' for a short while and then shoved. Shove or fold there (which is not an option here) instead of re-raising.

Yeah, I like poker. I play it every once in a while with some friends. I seem to be pretty unlucky. But as they say, luck comes and goes, and I've actually been able to win with a four of a kind of aces and a few times with a pair due to bluffing.

TBH you should have made a bigger bet post flop because you wanted him to not see another card. However that was a terrible beat. Stupid cards.

i play poker pretty much daily, either live games or online (Absolute poker aka Bad Beat capital of the ****in world) anyway i've been on the losing end of tons of bad beats...mainly people catching either runner runner flushes or straights but then again i've won on some crazy bad beats (can't really think of any off hand but they're probably better forgotten)

That doesn't make sense.

Judging by your explanation you must've hit a full house.

So the flop was: 3 6 x turn: y river: 6

this makes your friend's hand three of a kind of 6s
but your hand full house of 3s over 6s

learn the rules better so you won't lose more money like this.

I got pocket aces (which ****ing hate me, I never win with those pieces of ****) and slept preflop just calling the bets. Flop is ace 4 4. I'm doing backflips inside because I just flopped a full house. Kid raises me. I reraise. He goes all in after a while, I follow suit. He has queen four, trip fours, but I have him dominated.
The next card is a four.
I'm ****ed.
This was like two years ago and I still remember it.

^Go onto an online poker site like 888.com, and they should show the lingo in the how to play section.

That's why i always raise pre flop with aces. If i don't, more often than not, a rag hand often hits something and beats me.
It's gonna be a blue day
