So I had my heart set on an Epiphone Masterbilt DR-500R...I'm buying it in the next day or two, but of course, being as thorough as I am, I shop around til the last minute..and I stumbled on the Guild GAD-40C...

Now I am in a bind; WHICH DO I GET? I've played my buddy's DR-500R, and it is a dream to play, but the guild really caught my eye. I'd play it, but alas, I am overseas in the wonderful desert, and dont' have that luxury, so if anyone has anything positive or negative to say about either the Epiphone or Guild, please please let me know. The thing about the Guild is that it's a cutaway, and would allow me to play the upper frets much easier...and all the reviews on this guitar have been glowing...damn.

Play them both for a good while and just try to see which is the one for you.

Eh my bad... I can't really help that much then, I don't know much about steel stringers, only classical guitars.

I believe Jimtaka bought a Master Built a while back, I'll see if I can dig up the thread for you.

Sincerely, Chad.

well.... if you've never played it. i wouldn't go with it, i wouldn't buy a car based on reviews and features alone.

but better yet, must you buy the guitar right away? if your willing to wait......... it might save you some dinero, or double check the return policy on your epiphone.
A good friend will come bail you out of jail.....
A true friend will be sitting next to you saying "Damn.... We fucked up."

If I'm right, I just bought the exact same Guild today and it is amazing I haven't put it down yet, I got it for 700 USD, and it's an acoustic-electric with a cutaway and i tried the Epiphone Master-Bilts next to it and didn't like them anywhere near as much, but I am now a Guild Addict and every Guild guitar they had in that store I loved as I played them all.

Interesting. It turns out that there are people on the forum who play an upright bass. I'll make a note of that.

*makes note*

*puts note on wall*

*stares at note for a minute*

*sits back down and resumes doing what I was doing*

Being the owner of a GAD-40C I can tell you that they are damn sweet. I have found the Masterbuilts to be a bit hit or miss, so play the exact one you are to buy. Given the choice though, I would go with the Guild. (The cut-away looks pretty sweet too in my opinion.
