I started playing bass a couple of days ago (played guitar beforehand) and i've been playing quite alot. I've been play slap bass and my thumb is getting realy sore. I think i'm just going to have to suck it up, which isn't a problem but im just checking if i'm doing it right. I'm slapping with the side of my thumb and its hit right on the side of the thumb joint. Is this right? Or should i try and hit the string closer to the tip of my thumb? Thanks.
It's probably just sore, because your thumb isn't used to it.

It's just like when you are learning guitar/bass, your left hand hurts like hell from fretting the strings. You'll build a callas or your skin will just get used to it.
