It's not worth 200 bucks.

It's not even worth 20 bucks.

Buy a new amp, then an Elitist Les Paul.

Mediocre guitar + good amp = good sound

Great guitar + ****ty amp = ****ty sound

The AMP = 75% or more of your TONE.

It's really hard to accept at first, but once you do, you'll thank yourself.

EDIT: DO NOT buy a BIGGER mg. It'll be the same ****ty sound, just a lot louder.

Show him my post!

I'll back you up.

Seriously, the amp is 75% or more of your sound. Most people think "If I have a good guitar, it'll sound good, right?"

Wrong. Not through a ****ty amp, it won't.

AMP is > GUITAR.

You could probably sell that amp for about $50 or so.

I would suggest keeping both of them until you have about $400 or more. For a new guitar at $400 you could look into Michael Kelly or Agile.

For a new amp I'd look at a used Flextone II, or III, I prefer the II's. A 5150 combo, Epi Valve JR or used So Cal. A Roland cube 30 or 60 would be a huge upgrade to the Marshall.

A Flextone II or 5150 combo should do what you want.

The Flextone II can be found on ebay any day of hte week for about $250-$400. The 5150 combos are in the $450-$600 range typically.

and have him read the responses.

do not get a micheal kelly if you are playing anything hard, most of there pickups are direct mounted so you cant adjust them and it costs extra amount of money to get new pickups becuase they have to take them off and mount them again and make mods to the pickups. agile are ok but save up more you can do better, i would save up 600 its the norm for a good guitar but amp first. ask the boys in guitar gear and accessories what to get, but make sure you tell them your styles and stuff. read the stickies first because you might find your amp questions there, ANSWERED.

1. Michael Kelly guitars are great. A good Les Paul knockoff for the price, + they have coil split, grover tuners, and a tune o matic bridge.

2. You can't be agile for the price. Crunchmeister has even stated that his Agile sounds very similar to his Gibson Les Paul studio.

Most guitars quality in the $400-$800 range is about the same. It's when you start going in the thousands when the difference can be felt.

So the support group will be MMGA - Marshall MG's Anonymous.

Hmm....
or MMGUA (Marshall MG Users Anonymous)

"Hi my name is Aaron and I'm a Marshall MG user "
"Hi Aaron"
"I...umm...I can't get it to sound right. Like my tone sucks and its just depressing "
"Its ok Aaron we're here for you. Tell us how you feel"
"Well I bought this amp and I thought it would be killer because Zakk Wylde told me in a Guitar World ad that the overdrive is crushing! but...instead is sounds like stepping on a cats tail and.."

...meanwhile some members of the Valve Junior Cult burst into the room and start laughing at Aaron even though they once got suckered into buying an MG's ...
"HAHA sucker!!! If I wanted to hear a moaning c*nt I'd watch a porn flick"

I think thats more or less how it would go here on UG if there was a MG support group lol

Personally I love the Flextone 2 for the price and quality, but it's understandable why someone might not like it.

If you sell the MG, sell it to someone who is unsuspecting, it sounds mean but it works, keep telling them how it's a marshall, and assuming they have undeveloped ears, show them a couple of simple licks with it and they'll buy it off you straight.
I managed to sell an MG for £150 which aided my Laney LC15, BTW My dad bought the MG for me when it was the DSL401 that I wanted, but I can't complain, at least he tried.

first you say MGs sucks and then you want another one....wow

the 250 is just a louder and bigger 15w. it is the same thing and same ****ty sound!

get a decent valve amp, for example a peavey valveking combo!(depending on your budget)

save up for a tube, or get a vox or something...

The Flextone isn't bad you know?

Although something like the Palomino would be good for Ozzy with a bit of a boost.

I used a Line 6 Flextone 2 live for about 2 years. Every show we played either someone offered to buy it or someone complimented my tone. IT SOUNDS LIKE A BOOGIE. Unless you've tried it you shoudln't go on saying NO NO NO and get a tube amp instead. The crate isn't going to be an excellent amp without pedals.

Flextone II, eh?

Can't say that I've played through one.

I'll have to locate one somewhere around here and try it.

"Hi my name is Aaron and I'm a Marshall MG user "

That's funny, my name is Aaron.

Can't say I've ever bought an MG though.....

I do have one that was given to me though. It's not exactly an MG, it's a Marshall Lead 12 Mini Stack from the 80's. It sounds slightly better than an MG, but it's still nothing special.

One of my good friends has an MG. I tried to play something through it and no matter what I did to the EQ it sounded like I had kicked a box of killer bees with a hoarse clown inside.

Anyways, TS you might wanna sell the amp, because there are better amps to be had. The valve junior is a nice amp, The Roland Cube is one of the best sounding Solid state amps for the price

Well, I have personally found the higher wattage versions of some amps sound better than the lower ones, even at the same volume. I dunno if it's like that with MGs or not.
