Alrite heres my story..
I bought an Ovation Celebrity CC65 12 String, its a gorgeus guitar and sounded amazing... I brought it home played it for about an hour put it on the stand and went to watch the superbowl...about 4 hours later i went to bed and herd a crackling sound in my room...it repeated and got louder so i turned on the light and looked around for the source of the sound... and about 5 seconds after i tunred on the light the bridge on my Ovation cracked in half and flew across the room, 9 strings shot up the fretboard and 3 remained in the section of the bridge that was still intacked to the body...I had it tuned as EE AA DD GG BB EE.... The guy i bought it from gave me it extremely out of tune and some strings were sagging and i asked him what to tune it to and he said standard..
So what happend?
What was i supposed to do?
What should i do?

beat his ass, take your money back, then rape him.

except maybe without the raping part.

i would argue that that is the integral part of the plan

In your lower four strings, I assume you had them tuned and octave apart, not the same?
#6
That's probably the answer then. They should be tuned an octave apart on the lower four strings. So you may have had too much tension on the bridge. I'd think your higher strings would have busted first, though... Were they true 12 string set of strings? They should be different diameters, except for the the two (4) high strings, which would be identical.

Im not to sure exactly... it came as it was.. the last four seem the same diameters.. not to sure about the others...

buy a new bridge glue it on restring it badda boom badda bing fixed hell upgrade the saddle and and bridge material

Problem is half of the bridge is still stuck to the guitar... checked out a few shops in my area and they said 100 bucks plus to fix it.

maybe theres a ghost in your room that doesnt like ovations?

either way that sucks, i've heard its not a bad idea to tune 12strings halfstep down just to be safe with the tension regardless but to each his own.

Get the bridge replaced. If you keep calling around, you should be able to find a decent luthier that will do it for around $75 USD.

As far as getting your $$ back... sounds to me like you screwed it up yourself. Buy a new set of light gauge strings (tell the luthier that you're going to put light guage strings on it and he should set the neck for you). Tune it correctly this time and you'll have no problems.

Just got an email back from ovation they will do it for 60, which isnt that bad... How am i supposed to tune it?

On a side note, a shop that i did bring it to pointed out that there was glue residue on the crack, which could mean that it has happened before...

Seems pretty evident to me that you got a bum guitar. I'd knock that guy about the head.
Sincerely, Chad.
