sir, i would like to inform you that you are now my favorite UGer. Not only did you use the word y'all, which is native to my homeland, but you correctly punctuated it using the apostrophe.

Signs of general wear and tear built up over the years certainly adds character but I totally dislike the artificially weathered guitars that are on the market.

PROPERLY reliced guitars are just the secks. Emphasis on PROPERLY.

Oh, and yeah, Fru's '55 (I believe...) Strat is just gorgeous.

Yea, though I don't really get the mentality of beating up a guitar on purpose to make it look cool (relicing), a well loved, cared for, but compleatly thrashed strat always looks cool. And just to be anal, thats his '62. 55 has an ash body and maple fretboard.

Exactly!
Someone who beats up his Strat on purpose doesn't even deserve the Strat itself.

Thats a great looking Strat, is that yours? What year is it? Would love to own one with a look like that, naturally of course not done by someone on purpose.

Two of the nicest Battered Strats i've ever seen are SRV's Number One and JM's CS relic.

John mayers:

Also is on Heavier Things album cover??

That's not a CS relic, it's his first strat thats just beat up
#22
Strats are the ONLY guitars that have any class once relic'd.

My input:

Gonna have to say theres enough strat coverage with the ones already shown, plus:

Eric Clapton's 'Blackie':

And then what about beat up LPs?

Neil Young's 'Old Black':

And Bob Marley's LP, one of my all time favourite guitars..

Since owning my 1979 strat....i have worn the frets, rusted the trem slighlty...and given it a few chips and dents.....at the time it pisses me off for a few days if i realise i have damaged it..but in the long run....theres nothing to stop it really !..in anycase..like you guys say they look cool....i sure love em too !

Vintage, The body is a '72, and the neck is a replacement. I think the neck was for one of the '62 reissues but im not positive. When I originally got it it wasn't so mucked up, but I've had it for a quite a few years now so it's pretty banged up.

John Frusciante kicks ass

and yeah I love the look of a good worn strat... too bad my MIM's finish could withstand a nuclear blast with a scratch....

I personally think all guitars look great when beaten to hell, but Strats are definitely the best for that. My SG's pretty worn out, and I think it looks pretty bad ass... the chrome on the bridge is gone, the finish has worn off in some areas, and it's fairly dinged up... but I would definitely rather have a beaten strat.

John mayers:

Bingo. And Twevo is wrong. That guitar is Masterbuilt by John Cruz, and was relic'd to look similar to SRV's #1 but in his own touch with the black paint and aged minted pickguard. And his SUPER LOW output pickups, damn I want those.

I don't like it when they are too beat up, like some guitars shown here are. I like just some color worn off on the edges and maybe a BIT more, but not like so that there would look like small pieces of color left on it.
I think John Frusciante's guitars are perfect lookin'

Oh and I always just drool when I see a pic of Bob Marley's guitar!

As far as dings go, the only prevalent ones my Strat has are from that, beltbuckle scratches on the back, and wearing finish.
