I'm sure it's possible, but I wouldn't suggest it. If he wants to be able to travel with it, what case is he planning on using?

Anything is possible, If you spend A lot of time designing this you could come up with a good hinged neck guitar I bet, but you'd have to do some major modifications on it. For the average person with no access to tools however, it would be a long shot. Most people would start a project like this and never finish it.

its possible, i've seen it before. the only problem i see with it is that it would go horrible out of tune when you fold it out again.

they released one at NAMM.
it looked unconventional, unless you travel ALOT. and enjoy changing your strings.

It's possible as long as the hinge is strong and you have locking bridge and tuners/nut
