SO who likes John lee hooker? Who Plays his songs? Everything John Lee.
Personally He's my favorite blues man, so i just want to start a thread where people can talk bout him and his music.
#3
i love john lee hooker, i love the boogie he uses in his blues. i think he's my favorite bluesman except sometimes i like muddy waters' stuff better, but ya gotta love JLH.
#4
He's so damn raw. Whenever i try to play his stuff, all i do is listen to the song to get the feel and then improvise. And he is the king of talkin blues.
#5
He is probably my favorite bluesman. That man could lay down a groove like nobody ever has and I doubt anyone ever will. The man was the definition of cool.
#7
I haven't heard any JLH in so long! I am gonna go listen to some now

I have a rerecorded version of Boom Boom, he used a really muddy and distorted guitar for it, I sounds so bloody awesome

JLH used to be my favorite blues man, my favorite is Boogie Chillun, great song

Fave JLH songs have to be 1 bourbon 1 scotch and 1 beer and I'm Bad Like Jesse Jame.

Next would have to be Whiskey and Women (or Wimmin.)

John is amazing! ^ I agree. George did a great job of that song

Boom Boom!
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
#13
Love him on "Live at Cafe Au Go-Go" I could put it on repeat forever.
#14

The DVD of him is good too, I think it's just called John Lee Hooker?

He was an amazing dude, pretty much the last free-form bluesman. I would play his songs but I just don't have the groove to use 1 chord for a whole song and sing out of time without sounding ****e. He does it better than anyone.

My favorite songs are Bad Like Jesse James or Crawling King Snake.

And I like how a lot of people think he's blind becuse he used to wear glases all the time, his daughter (I think) says on that DVD that he always wore them because he would often cry when playing his songs.

A cool thing I read somewhere was that soeone asked him to engrave their guitar as like an autograph, to which he replied "I don't scratch no guitars, man."

Amazing guy, amazing legacy. I think he'll certainly rank as one of the best bluesmen EVER forever.

He is amazing. I like how his songs are so awesome but the songwriting is so poor. If I saw some of his lyrics on paper I would be like "are you kidding me?" but when I hear the song it is amazing. Everything sounds wrong but in such a right way...

It's amazing huh? So simple. One chord and his lyrics don't even rhyme most of the time.

I think it is too, but not in the traditional way. I mean nothing rhymes or even tries to rhyme or have any structure. Actually some of them sound like they go out of their way to not rhyme.
