So.. I've been looking around all the Ibanez sites, but I can't seem to find anything about SZ series guitars anymore...
See, I was going to buy one soon... just inquiring about the quality in comparison.

All I can find is the new SZR series.
So I ask you people, what, if any, is the difference between the SZ and SZR families?

Is the SZR better? Worse?
How much does it cost?

Ps, I'm talking about the 720s.
Here's a link to the new SZR page on the Ibanez site.
http://www.ibanez.com/eg/guitar.aspx?m=SZR720

Thank you all for the help.

The fretboard and head were slightly different on the SZ, The SZ's also had Duncan Designed pickups, whereas the SZR looks to have OEM pickups.

Everything else(except finishes) is practically all the same thing.
Ibanez -> Peavey -> Eardrums

Apparently I'm on some list of people to listen to..?

This are the specs for the SZ720, compare them to the SZR, they're pretty similar except the pickups are different and the top wood is quilted instead of flamed. Is hard to say if one is better than the other since the SZR is a new model that just came out this year so, who knows. But I think it would be the same as the SZ, maybe the sound is a bit different since the pickups are different, other than that I would think is the same.

Mahogany/ Flamed Maple top Body

22/Medium frets

You know there are still some SZ models available at some places like zzounds website, (that's where i got the specs from) and maybe as the new SZR takes it's place, the SZ might be sold as a clearance item which will cost less than before.

I was looking on musician's friend...

I found a good SZ 720, but it was the sunburst finish.

Are the guitars sold at Zzounds used?
I think I'll just stick to the SZ...

I'd pick up the SZ - it's Korean and has a smooth set neck joint, while SZR is Indo and has a LP-esque neck joint.

I'll second the guess that SZ stock will be sold off for a pittance soon.

I don't think the SZR is even out everywhere yet, not many people have had the chance to play them. I definitely want to try one, for the price it would have to be seriously good to be better than the SZ.

From the pictures I'd say it looks as though it doesn't have as good upper fret access as the SZ. It has the same bridge, and from the second picture it looks as though it still has that nice, thick body also. It appears to still have the same controls (volume-volume-tone), which is good, and the pickup selector switch is still tucked away behind the other controls, which is bad.

I think I like the inlays on that 720, but I'd have to see it in person to decide whether it's too much or not. Too bad they changed the headstock though, the SZ one was the best looker in the Ibanez line-up in my opinion. I love the colours on the hardware on that black one, the pickup rings look almost wooden.

Yeah the SZs are being sold cheaper on musicians friend

Edit: I've been wanting the Black Cherry...

Wow... I wish I had 650 bucks right now, I'd buy that thing RIGHT NOW.
There's only 2 of the Blackcherry left...
My birthdays's in March, so I may get it for that.

If you mean the Black Berry (cherry??? lol) It's at Zzounds new, but as you can see on the option for it, it says that there are only two available so, if you want it, you might want to hurry before they're gone!

Yeah man... Why would I call it blackberry?
Is it not blackcherry? Lol...

Why would they call the damn thing Blackberry if it's black cherry coloured? LMFAO!

What if when I order it, there's a shipping error or something, and it gets wrecked or scratched somehow, what happens then?

Also, I know that you can get shipping within 2 days, and within the next day.
How are they supposed to do that if I live in Canada?

Can they still do that?
