Basically, I've had a BYOC Fuzz Face clone since Christmas, and I've finally gotten around to getting the materials to build it. This thread will chronicle the construction of the fuzz box.

First off, I need to know if I got the right stuff.

What I have:
-solder
-flux
-soldering iron, stand, and sponge
-the pedal kit

See the pics below, and please tell me if I have what I need. If I don't, please tell me what I don't have so I can get it.

Help is both needed and appreciated.

is the solder 60/40? thats the best. i dont use flux, because most solder has it already in it. look around for a soldering demo before you jump in

Any good links for soldering guides?

Yeah, you shouldn't need the flux unless trying to solder really dirty connections. Looks like the solder with your kit already has flux(rosin core) so it should be fine.

Here's a nice guide with some extra information: http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/solder.htm

p.s. flux is also used for surface soldering... though You won't be doing any of that in this simple pedal build.

You may want to get some fine sandpaper, or steel wool. Just to help clean up connections. Even new material can sometimes get covered in stuff that just doesn't wipe off.

Another question.

With the kit, you get a certain number of alternate parts. different resistors, pots, etc. Would someone be willing to explain what each of these mods would do, and which ones would make a generally improved pedal over the basic Fuzz Face?

http://buildyourownclone.com/fuzzinstructions.pdf <---- Parts list is there. it gives a partial explanation, but it's not completely clear.

Help is appreciated.

Reducing the value of the input capacitor is going to give you a less woofy, bassy tone. In my pending build, i'll be using a 1uf capacitor like in the analogman sunface so it fits in better with my band.

Reducing the value of the output pot also can affect the tone. Following the sunface design, im using a 250k pot.
