I play more than one style of music...so what's a good string gauge that can be used for punk/rock/metal/acoustic simulation stuff and that kinda thing...I figure punk and acoustic stuff would be best with a lighter gauge...whereas metal would be better with a heavier gauge.

and someone told me that heavier ones create more tension and can make the neck warp...but it would also then seem that a gauge too light could make it warp in the opposite direction...I would greatly appreciate some clarification on all this.

thanks.

Whatever feels most comfortable.

Guitar necks have truss rods that you can adjust to counter the tension from the strings.

Id say get 10s or maybe 11s. I can get down to Drop C with 10s. Im pretty happy with em. I think those would be best.

well, I don't even know what gauge is on my guitar right now...it's comfortable...but I was asking like what's the best sound wise.

13-56 is the most versatle, yet I use 14-60 and can do anything from A standard to E standard, string heights vary from those two tunings but thats minor change, also intonation adjustments are needed, defiently most versatile though

There's no string gauge for a particularly genre.

ya, I use a mixed set on both my guitars. One has a 9s top 10s bottom and the other has a 10s top and 11s bottom. I really prefer it. I get nice heavy power chords, but still get easy bends.

Just experiment and use what you like. I would generally gor for a medium to heavy gauge for versatility.

So you're saying that I should just use what's most comfortable?

do 9's break easier than a heavier gauge?

I'll probably get 10's or something then...I dislike having to change the strings often.
