Probably should be posted elsewhere, but I enjoy humorus pit-comments.

My band entered a battle of the bands the other day (never had a gig in this city before, a few lined up though), we just want to play really. But we got the list for the other bands in our heat, checked out their websites etc, and they're all acousticy-folk-rock-indie sh!t!

My band are mostly thrash and speed metal influenced, so has anyone got any advice for:

1- Playing in a battle of the bands type situation.
2- Playing with bands of a completely different genre.

Thanks, for any advice (especially if it's no help).

Sorry, but because you listen to Tool doesn't mean you're intelligent.

If the genre or style is supposed to be something, check that first. Otherwise, if the crowd wants an energetic performance, you guys should be awesome.

id much rather listen to acousticy-folk-rock-"indie-****" than lame speed metal.

drop out of the competition.
dont ruin it for everyone by you being completely out of place.

not only will you feel awkward, but the audience isn't gonna want you there.

We sent them our demo first, then they put us in the competition, I doubt they'd let us in if they thought we were time-wasters to be honest.

call yourselves the Sinergized Exploding Wombats and when you go up to play, bring up stuffed wombats with you and fill them with fake blood. throughout your show, chuck them at the crowd, causing them to explode, splashing fake blood everywhere. epic win for the contest!! (that is of course assuming you don't get kicked out first)

Megadeth.

We only get a three song set, so we're only playing original material.

May i recommend playing a definite crowd pleaser to open or close...
Songs like Fight for Your Right, or another song thats an automatic draw for any crowd definitely makes an impact on the crowd and judges...i once judged a Battle of the Bands...I really looked at musicianship but other judges marked down heavily on Metal Bands because they didn't understand...Even an Ozzy song or something a little mainstream might get ya some sway...but definitely rock your own brand of music
