My uncle's a luthier. See the title ^? LOL

Anyway, I'm thinking of asking him to make me an acoustic. Possibly a hollowbody.
I would like it to be "parlor"-size, 21 frets, 24.75" scale length, maple top, back, and mahogany sides, brass nut, rosewood bridge, trapeze tailpiece, casino-style pickguard with etched design.

How much would you say he would want for this ^.

How long would it take?

Estimates please......

He's YOUR uncle, why don't you just ask him?

gosh, dude, why so offensive?

but to answer your question, 'cause I don't want to call him up and tell him, 'oh never mind.'

that's kinda bein a dick^, so no.

Just tell him you want to get an estimate so he's not expecting anything.

why not call im up and say "I was talking to Frank today and mentioned that you make guitars. He's looking for a place to get an acoustic custom made for him, but doesn't have too much to spend at the moment." Proceed to explain that he's just looking for quotes ATM, so won't buy anything soon. Then in a month or so, if the price seems reasonable, call him up again and say "I was thinking about getting a new acoustic." and so on.

I dunno. Or you could just tell the truth. Just tell him that it's too much to spend right now if he gives you a high-priced estimate. Although I would imagine that he'd give you a decent price. If a family member or very close friend wanted a custom guitar (and I was a real luthier, not just a hobbyist sort of deal, meaning I'd get parts and wood in bulk for cheaper), I'd do it for them at a lower price.

and on a side note, that's pretty freakin' sweet that your uncle's a luthier. I wish someone in my family even had a woodshop...

good idea, but it's still lying.

Gosh, why the stupid question in the first place? We don't know your uncle, we don't know how much he charges, we don't know the quality of his builds or even who he is. How are we expected to be able to answer a question like the one you asked? Just say you're interested in how much he would charge for something like you want?

A luthier is a blanket term btw.

As far as you know he only specializes in violins...
#11
that wouldnt be too bad ^^

he could specialize in sticks..
