Okay, guys this is for my little brother who wants to play bass. I play electric guitar so honestly i don't have any idea which bass and amp are good - and at my little bros price range.

He likes classic rock to metal! But i want to buy him a very versatile bass and amp if possible. Blues and acoustic sound will be good, if possible

Please help an older brother out!!
Thanx in advance

Note: ya, i will teach him some basic that i know in electric so we can jam out...maybe form a band lol

I got a GSR200 instead of a 190 because I went to GC and they just threw some stuff together...I got pretty much the same thing though...

I don't get why people think certain basses and combo amps are more "X Genre" suited. Sure, some might have a feature that many X Genre players seem to like, but really, it's all EQ.

Anyways, the Ibanez pack, as mentioned, is good.

Then...don't get a starter pack....You could get a pretty good deal on separate items with your budget...

I haven't played Peavey basses but those look amazing (and have nice reviews).....I have a 10w Peavey amp and it was pretty good.

My SX Jazz bass is incredible. Just finally got it today. I'm honestly in disbelief. My friend's SX bass is what sold me on SX stuff... but mine is even better than his. Only $120. I honestly can't believe my hands, this thing feels amazing. You can get them on rondomusic.com.

I also have an Ashdown After Eight bass practice combo. But with the money you save on the bass, get an Ashdown Perfect Ten or Five Fifteen, both are also combo practice amps. Best practice amps I've played.

Those are my recommendations. I also recommend you stop by the Bass Forum FAQ thread.
