I have about $800 to spend on a guitar and amp.

The amp will only be for practice, so I was thinking about a roland cube.

As for the guitar, for around $600 would jackson give the best quality?

If you want to know, I play Metal...in all its forms.

You can do a bunch of quality guitars for $600. Jackson, Schecter and Ibanez come to mind. Perhaps some used/clearance LTDs would do you over as well.

Yeah I'm probably going to take a look at scheter. Ibanez doesn't have many guitars over $600.

Yeah, I have a few ibanez already. So I was going to try something new.

Good for metal as well as other genres (SDs are fairly versatile).

Metal all the way, although some people like the EMGs' less overdriven tones as well.

Good guitar - nice pickups, LFR is of pretty good quality.

Jackson has the best quality in its price range, though used Jackson Pros, MIJ Charvels, and old Ibanez RG550 beat current Jacksons by a mile.

I can vouch for the DK2M. Great guitar. Very comfortable to play on. Also has a good tone, nice pups, etc. Only drawback is the locking nut making tuning a bit difficult. But that definitely shouldn't be enough to stop you. It's really awesome.

I've listened to your mp3s. Is that the dk2m?

Yeah. Please don't go by that, though. The combination of my guitar through a tube amp turned quiet, through my Mac's crappy built in microphone doesn't say much about its tone. Besides, where it really shines is its playability. It honestly feels like it's built around my fingers, the neck is just perfect for speed.

I'd give my vote to a 400 series ESP LTD. They are made with great wood, have emg's or duncans stock, and all are ether set thru or neck through.
