I couldn't find any thread about this, maybe I missed it..

Anyways, I heard that if you tune down very low (C, B, A, etc.) the guitar neck could twist.
I haven't found anything about this online, tried searching google for it and looking through UG but no dice.

Also from the same source I was told that you can prevent the neck twisting by removing a spring from the body of the guitar.
Haven't seen anything about this subject either.

I've been afraid of downtuning my guitar since I don't want to ruin it.
It's a Cort EVL-Z6 if that helps.

Again, sorry if this has been discussed already.

never heard of a neck twisting...maybe what they meant is that it could arch back since the tension from the string isn't there anymore

Somebody was lie-ing to you dude. I have never heard of that happening and I play in dropped c all the time on one of my guitars. The neck is fine and it works just as good as the day i bought it!

I guess if you were dropping to C with like... 9s.
There wouldn't be any tension to counter the tension placed by the truss rod, so... the neck coul bow head forward.

But c'mon... nobody's going to drop to C in 9s. I can drop to D in 10s, and it's still a bit loose.

Yeah that's DROP C. He's talking about C standard.
Drop C is nothing... it's like D standard with an extra step down on the E string.
I've also never heard of anything like this.

It's still the same situation I described with C standard anyways.

Weird, I wonder where he got it from then.
Not sure what 9s and 10s mean but I use thicker gauge strings.

Guess I'll just go ahead and downtune away.

Thanks for the help!

C is really not that low, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about.
