Basically I'm having a house party on saturday and I was wondering if the pit can suggest any cheesy 80's pop songs I can get for the playlist? I'm looking for dancey and cheesy songs for a laugh.

Also, to make this thread a little more interesting, post any funny party stories you may have.

haha, I was trying to avoid that.

I've already got Lionel Richie, Joy Division, Pet Shop Boys, Cyndi Lauper and Prince.

"total eclipse of the heart", it doesn't get cheesier, that baby is Kraft mac and cheese!

As far as a party story, one time back in college we had a raging party and the cops showed up. When they knocked on the door my dumbass roomate answered it while holding a bubbler. i thought we were in handcuffs for sure but apparently the cop either ignored it or didn't see it, not sure which.

Once at a fancy dress party my friend showed up as a cop and when he knocked on the door about 15 people ran out the back door and tried to escape thruogh the garden before they realised.

One Small Day or Dancing With Tears in my Eyes would be good Ultravox songs for a dance party.

Also:

Alphaville - Big in Japan
The B-52's - Rock Lobster
Classix Nouveax - Because You're Young
DEVO - Through Being Cool
Duran Duran - The Chauffeur (for slowdancing)
Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Two Tribes
Gary Numan - Cars
Happy Mondays - 24 Hour Party People
Thomas Dolby - She Blinded Me With Science
Japan - The Art of Parties
Nena - Leuchtturm
New Order - Age of Consent
Oingo Boingo - Dead Man's Party
OMD - Enola Gay
The Psychedelic Furs - Pretty in Pink
Rational Youth - City of Night
Talking Heads - Burning Down the House
Sigue Sigue Sputnik - Sex-Bomb-Boogie
Tears for Fears - Pale Shelter
Trans-X - Living on Video
Visage - Fade to Grey
Yaz - Don't Go
Bruce Springsteen - Dancing in the Dark
The Cure - The Lovecats

Most of those bands have lots of better songs, but those are all fairly dancy. They're also hits for the most part, so people will recognize them.

^ Woah, thanks a lot. I already have a few of those songs but that should be a big help!

Party story; last house party i was at there was a mass bed bouncing on session. Predictably enough ending with a broken bed. Also the police came twice to break it up... failing both times, with me running a fair distance in the dark, into a muddy park the first time. Although their appearance was more to do with the infestation of younger folks outside trying to get in, causing much noise nearby. The lock on the guy's toilet door also got broken and yesterday he came into school explaining how he'd had to kick a hole in the door to escape when it locked him in....

as for cheesy 80s songs, can't really help you a lot.... sorry

Dude don't avoid it, embrace it! How many chances will you have to Rick Roll and entire house full of people?

I was at an 80's theme party the other day, filled with 80's clothes and music.

So you'd think I have some ideas but I don't

There's probably alot of "best of the 80's" CDs around though.

There are still a couple essential songs missing from this mix list:

Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen
Aha - Take On Me
The Divinals (sp?) - I Touch Myself...there is a killer techno remix of this if you can find it)
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)...for some Breakfast Club madness

And mad props to whoever mentioned Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" on the last page, that is officially my guilty pleasure song.
