According to Spinal Tap, D minor is the saddest of all keys, but a D minor chord can fit into a happy song, too.

I realise that keys and chords are not the same, but you get the point.

minors give it a sadder sound, flats give it a darker sound. A minor does good, and ill agree with nigel that Dminor is a sad key.
