This is a genre with many skilled guitarists! Who do you consider the best? (favorite)

I'm gonna say Jeff Waters... he's truly a god.
Gear as 2015:
Ibanez PGM401
Music Man JP6 (for sale)
Music Man Axis (for sale)
Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster
Ibanez EW Acoustic Steel string
Crappy Cort Acoustic 12-string
NI Rig Kontrol 3 & Guitar Rig 5

OMG LIEK KIRK HAMMFIELD!!!!!

I'm gonna have to say either Hetfield or Mustaine, actually, on the basis of practically inventing the genre. The stuff from Slayer and Anthrax of the time just hasn't aged well, TBH.

Ah. Well, influence, not invention

If you're gonna play that card we'll just say Tony Iommi and end it there.

Clearly not. I'm rather tired...

I'll look here tomorrow and see I've made a huge prick of myself somehow.

I'd bet you anything that even if this thread would have gotten to page 100, no one would have mentioned Piggy from Voivod...

That's a dumb question, you know everyone in here would buy it too. I know I would!

+1

My vote goes to Mantas or Fast Eddie.

From the American thrash scene, I'd have to go with Alex Skolnick or Jeff Hanneman, though. Those dudes could (and still can) play circles around anybody.

James Hetfield easily, he's easier to follow than Mustaine, who's a little to crazy for me sometimes.

You're losing interest because you're simply not gay enough. Which leads me to believe you aren't cut out for metal.

Jeff Waters.

However, IMO, Annihilator suck severe balls, however good the solos are.
