Now i've searched the forum but every other thread has a bunch of fools talking about metal songs, and Freebird.

What I need is a nice, chill song to do at my graduation. The only stipulation is no country or new rock crap (fallout boy or anything like that). I can sing pretty well and it will just be me playing guitar. I wanted to do Times Like These by the Foo Fighters but it was done a couple years ago by an extremely talented kid and i dont want to be compared to him.

Thanks guys,
I can always trust the people in the acoustic and classical forum

How is it overdone?....

Anyway, how about
Swing Life Away - Rise Against.

Seems like that would suit your situation and has a good meaning and isn't overdone.

A Hole in the World by Thursday perhaps. Few, if any, people would probably recognize it depending on your school, but it's a cool song nonetheless.

Maybe Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls, lyrics go something like "and i dont want the world to see me cuz i dont think that they'd understand. When everythings made to be broken i just want you to know how i am" Its a very meaningful song!

Good Riddance is overdone. Everyone and their mother has heard that song as the high school anthem. In high school, my video productions teacher would actually subtract entire grades from students' scores if they played that song against a montage of incoherent shots of people wandering around campus. It happened often.

If you want to freak them out, play some Animal Collective. Personally, I'd pick just about any song by Bright Eyes. If The Brakeman Turns My Way is a good choice for the occasion. Reverend Horton Heat might not be a bad choice, either.
Sincerely, Chad.

Yeah, don't go with that song. I know I said you should, but you shouldn't because I agree with him.

Play In This River by Black Label Society, Cemetary Gates by Pantera, or Road Back Home By Zakk Wylde (This song is on his solo album Book Of Shadows and I think would be a great song to play.)

Elliot Smith - Wouldn't Mama Be Proud

It fits and would sound good with just you and an acoustic.
Listen to cky

I know you said no country but Don't Blink by Kenny Chesney would be a hell of a song to play at graduation.

Checkout the song Some Roads on youtube if you haven't seen it, that would also be a kickass song.

You could try "In My Life" By the Beatles. Though it may seem a bit old (lyrics).

Like the idea of Old Man aswell though.

Oooooooo stole my thunder, static_ian!!!!

I was just about to mention "In My Life" by the Beatles..dude it's the best way to go. Good riddance is overdone..all the other songs that were mentioned are just not the right vibe for a graduation song. Catch some ppl off-guard and turn some ppl onto good music

"In My Life"!!!! DO IT!!!!!!

I graduated in 88 and played a stripped down version of Never Say Goodbye by Bon Jovi
Look around and see what the day brings

In My Life would also work beautifully. You should definitely be seriously considering that one.
