start with easy songs/musical theory(if you wanna learn that)

I'd say look at Damnit - Blink 182, adam's song - blink 182 and californication. Just go to the beginning forum for guitar and bass and there should be a post for beginning songs. And I'm like you only the opposite, i wanna learn bass.

Bass is awesome, but guitar has more options as far as "fun songs" go. Its hard to find a real good bass line. Just make sure you learn as many chords as possible. And scales.

Try and learn songs you like, this will keep up your motivation. Black Dog- Led Zeppelin is a good song to get used to some easy finger changes and picking and you can keep playing it faster and faster as you get better.

first off start learning chords (and by learn i mean get the right fingering)and then scales, etc. check out the lessons section on UG. they have some great articles. as for songs take it easy and learn som acoustic songs, they'll help you get your hand movements down and help build dexterity. as for songs, just do ones you want to play, it can be really discouraging to learn songs you dont like just because there "for beginners".

learn the basic powerchords, then learn a scale or 2

i am not liable for anything stated above

i'd say go with learning chords and scales and such, and some easy stuff, like Nirvana, RHCP, Marilyn Manson, Creedance Clearwater Revival, etc. to start with (depending on what kind of music you wanna play really)

if youre into heavier stuff you could learn the rhythm guitar of Drist - Arterial Black, it shouldnt take anything to learn, but definatly learn some chords man

no ****, if i didnt start with easy **** like blink182 and nirvana i wouldnt be playing necrophagist now. I started with blink 182 and moved to classic rock, then to black label society and pantera, then to more technical stuff like Spawn of Possession and Necrophagist. all that over a 5 year period. I still love all the bands I learned from, except really blink-182... they got a few good ones tho
