My question is, why Eb?

To most people, they can't even tell the difference, so what's the point of detuning to Eb when you can play in E standard?!

What if you want to play lower notes? And everyone can tell the difference.

It is for powermetal bands, because regular tuning just ain't metal enough.

but seriously, maybe if you're playing a piece that was not originally intended to be played on guitar and is easier to play in Eb.
#10
Easier to sing with. Slightly anyways. Personally, if I want to put a song down a step, I just change the chors, so G = A, C = Bb Etc
#11
Ahhh... but it makes all the scales flat....it changes the chords and everything... AARRRRGH!!!

And as for the singing, is that why a lot of metal bands play in drop D/C?

have you ever heard of "keys" ??

some keys have Eb in them rather than a regular E.

Well, it makes things sound a lot different. I think it sounds a lot clearer in half step. It also allows for easier bending. And it makes things easier for the singer. And it really doesn't change the chords too much. They're just, down.
#15
Slash plays in Eb. That's why.

A lot of the old jazz stuff or other songs especially written with horns and other classical instruments are put into flat keys because thats what is standard for them but at least for me sharp keys are much more normal to solo in than something in eb. If you were writing a song that happened to be based in eb maybe u decide to tune down half a step to get a good low open chord instead of the barre chord.
#22
I also don't really see the point, except for making the job easier for the singer.
And about bending, just work on your strength :|

Because the guitar gods wish to upset and confuse you.

Power metal bands usually either stay in E standard or tune down a full step. Rarely do I see them go half a step down.

Sounds cooler in my opinion. It also makes the strings looser and easier to play. And I'm a baritone, so if I downtune my guitar it makes songs higher in my range easier to sing.
#29
not to flame, but you sir piss me off. i happen to prefer playing in a half step down as opposed to standard. i like the sound better. so if you dont like it, why do you make a thread just to bitch about it?!?!?!?! let people do what they want to, and you do what you want.
